Learn the real workflow, for free

Tutorials, coursework and job listings all assume Photoshop's way of working. PS Online lets you practice it without paying for a license:

  • Layers and blend modes, the foundation of every composite
  • Layer masks for non-destructive cutouts (try background removal)
  • Adjustment layers: Curves, Levels, Hue/Saturation, Black & White
  • Selections: Marquee, Lasso, Quick Selection, Magic Wand, Select Subject
  • Type and layer styles for posters, thumbnails and social graphics
  • Retouching with Spot Healing, Clone Stamp and Content-Aware Fill

Works on school computers

Locked-down lab machines and Chromebooks usually can't install software. PS Online is just a web page, so it works anywhere Chrome, Edge, Safari or Firefox does. See the Chromebook guide.

Hand in PSD files

Assignments often ask for a layered PSD. PS Online saves real PSD files with layers, masks and type intact, so teachers can open them in Photoshop or in PS Online.

For teachers

  • Nothing to deploy or license, just share the link
  • Student images stay on the device; nothing is uploaded
  • Interface available in English, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, German, French, Spanish and more

Questions

Is PS Online free for students?
PS Online is free for everyone. There is no student plan to apply for, no account to create and no time limit.
Will skills learned here transfer to Photoshop?
Mostly yes. PS Online uses the same concepts, panel names and keyboard shortcuts as Photoshop, and it saves standard PSD files you can open in Photoshop later.
Can teachers use it in a classroom?
Yes. It runs in the browser on Chromebooks, Windows and Mac, and student files never leave their device, which avoids most data-privacy questions.
